Das 19. Jahrhundert in Frankreich steht für die Entstehung einer neuen Massenkonsumkultur. Es ist die Zeit der neuen Kaufhäuser als Sinnbild erweiterter Produktpaletten, innovativer Marketingstrategien, volatiler Modetrends und eines neuen bürgerlichen Konsumverhaltens (cf.
